I Enjoy Behaving Ironically With Strangers
Why is that?
After listening to a podcast conversation with the screenwriter of a new AppleTV+ movie, The Family Man — love the premise: sounds like a comedic take on Jason Bourne — the podcast host said at the end of the conversation that anyone who had purchased an Apple device (key word) in the past six months could get a free, three-month subscription to AppleTV+. Me? In the past six months I purchased a pair of AirPods Pro. Hint: earbuds aren’t devices. I nevertheless wanted to pursue the matter and to be sure that I couldn’t take advantage of the offer. So I decided to place a call to Apple. Turns out I am out of luck (can’t say I’m surprised). The offer really only applied to people who bought devices: iPhones, iMacs, iPads, etc.
So on hearing the news from the rep, who more or less was a tech guy but who could still look up stuff, I said, “Look, you can give me the free subscription. Tim Cook doesn’t have to know. You can just delete this recording after we hang up and nobody except the two of us will be any the wiser.” I received the appropriate response from him: He laughed.
However, the rep thought it would be worthwhile to connect me to an Apple media person just to double check my situation. Our hopes were low, but it did make sense to speak to a media person about the matter instead of a technician…
